I have been involved with textiles in one form or another my entire life – from learning to knit at the age of 4 to running my own knitwear company a few – well about 20 – years later.  I had the best dressed Barbie and Sindy in our street as I was taught to sew, again at a very early age, by 2 fantastic seamstresses, my grandmother and mother. My mother now refers to me for advice on all things knitting and sewing which is nice.

I studied art and design at Birmingham City University. With an interest in natural forms, the art of Chris Ofili, John Latham, Kandinsky, Dali, Picaso, Georgia O’Keffe and Eva Hesse with a sprinkling of Millais, Gainsborough and many others; I carried out reseach into the depiction of children in art, particularly the American photographer Sally Mann and her use of her children in her work.  My last work at university was based on our place in time and space.

I have also City & Guilds qualifications in Machine Knitting and Patchwork and Quilting; Open University qualifications in Social Science and entrepreneurship.

I enjoy ‘fiddling’ with fabric, mostly cottons from lawn to duck canvas but do include anything in between and lots of recycled fabrics and items.

Here you will find examples of my work – some of which are for sale, information about my workshops and an insight into my motivations and inspirations in my blog.
